  • Aillwee Cave
    The cave forms part of a complex underground system extending beneath much of the Burren region.

  • Black Head
    The rocky headland on the Burren coastline ids a viewpoint from which dolphins and seals can often be spotted.

  • Burren Purfumery
    Perfumes based on the rich flora of the Burren are distilled here.

  • Cliffs of Moher
    Magnificent, sheer limestone cliffs towering above the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Corcomroe Abbey
    Carvings of enigmatic heads, effigies and floral motifs are interesting features of this ruined 12th century Cistercian foundation.

  • Doolin
    Co Clare village famous as a centre for traditional Irish music. Ferries to the Aran Islands operate from here.

  • Dunguaire Castle
    A four-storey tower house built in 1520 by descendents of the kings of Connaught. Some of the rooms have ceilings made of wickerwork.

  • Dysert O’Dea
    O’Deas Hermitage is an ancient monastic site with remains dating from prehistoric times to the 19th century. The Romanesque church and a Round Tower date from around AD 1100, as does the High Cross, called the White4 Cross of Tola.

  • Ennis Friary
    Franciscan friary founded in 1241. In the 14th century it housed a flourishing community of 400 friars and 600 students

  • Kilfenora
    The Burren Centre in the village is a mine of information about the region.

  • Killone Abbey
    The remains of one of Ireland’s few nunneries, dating from the 12th century, have a beautiful loughside setting.

  • Kilmacduagh Monastery
    Founded in the 7th century and sacked by the Vikings in the 10th century, the monastic complex spreads over a wide area. It has a fine round tower.

  • Knappogue Castle
    A tower house dating from 1467, restored in the style of that period with furniture to match.

  • Loop Head
    The most southerly point in Clare offers magnificent views south to the Dingle Peninsula.

  • Lisdoonvarna
    Spa town at the southern end of the Burren region.

  • Mullagh More
    Spectacular high rock strata, folded and contorted like dough.

  • Poulnabrone Dolmen
    This grand dolmen is a fine example of a megalithic tomb, with a capacity of more than twenty corpses and their accompanying offerings of pottery and jewellery.

  • Quin Friary
    Well-preserved ruins built on the foundations of an earlier castle, the bastions of which can still be seen. The church has tombstones dating from the 15th century.

  • Spanish Point
    Headland with wide beaches where ships from the Spanish Armada foundered in 1588.
