The most convenient international airport is Dublin
Airport.
There is a regional airport at Knock.
Boyle has direct rail links with Dublin
(Connolly Station) operated by Irish Rail.
Bus Eireann operates intercity and regional bus services
throughout Ireland.
Booking
It is generally not necessary to book in advance during the week on buses
or trains – if you turn up 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time
you can buy your ticket on the spot. At weekends it may be advisable to
book in advance for some journeys – you can book online (see links below).
Bikes
Bikes (boxed or unboxed) are carried free of charge on buses in the luggage
compartment beneath provided there is space.
Bicycles (boxed or unboxed) can be carried in most (but not all) intercity
trains – either in the guard’s van (if there is one) or in a designated
space in the carriage. A ticket is required – cost is dependent on distance
travelled. There are normally up to six spaces, allocated on a first come,
first served basis.
It is advisable to contact the station of origin the day before you travel
to check the bicycle status of the train that you plan to take.
TRAILHEAD - BOYLE
Dublin Airport / Dublin City Centre
Dublin Bus runs an airport shuttle from Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre,
calling at the main bus station (Busaras) and railway stations (Heuston
and Connolly).
From Dublin Connolly Station there are direct trains to Boyle.
Bus Eireann runs intercity buses from Dublin Bus Station (Busaras) to Boyle.
Knock Airport
Take a taxi from the airport directly to Boyle (ideally reserve prior to
travelling). Alternatively take the shuttle bus from Knock airport to Charlestown
and then a Bus Eireann service to Boyle (with change in Strokestown).
