Renting from the Iron Donkey Iron Donkey rental bicycles are custom
built for us by Orbit Cycles in Sheffield, England. Steel-framed,
with 26-inch wheels
and high quality Shimano components they are ideally suited to the
Iron Donkey tour routes.
The bikes come in 3 frame sizes. You can choose drop handlebars,
or straight bars with bar ends.
The bikes are fitted with a rear rack, fenders, a bottle cage and
water bottle, pedal cages and straps, a handlebar bag, a spare tube
and puncture repair kit, a multitool and a pump. Optional extras
include a bike computer and a pair of rear panniers.
If you want to bring your own pedals and/or saddle we will fit
them to your bike. Rental bikes will be waiting for you at your
trailhead accommodation. An Iron Donkey representative will make
the necessary adjustments to ensure that the bike is properly set
up for you.
We also have a small number of tandems available to rent.
Bringing your own bicycle
We have made the process of transporting your bike between your
arrival/departure points into and out of the country and your tour
region as simple and hassle free as possible – as follows:
- All the Iron Donkey tours start and finish at towns that are
served by rail, the train being the best means of public transport
when traveling with a bike, either boxed or unboxed.
- If you arrive by air and want to leave your bike boxes at or
close to the airport for your return journey this can be arranged.
- For Irish tours we offer the option of airport transfers (subject
to availability) for you and your bike to and from your tour.
If you bring a bike box, we will take it from the tour trailhead
to the final destination so you can box your bike again when you
finish riding.
- We will give you the necessary guidance and advice relevant
to your particular circumstances once we know your travel itinerary.
- Of course, if you have the time and the inclination you can
always ride to and from the tour – if you want to consider
this possibility, contact us for advice.
